Lean-Kanban University strongly feels that the announcement of the KCP designation further strengthens the Kanban community and will enable wider adoption and greater success, improving organizations around the world.

Lean-Kanban University (LKU) announces the launch of a professional designation for people coaching Kanban: Kanban Coaching Professional, or KCP. The Kanban Coaching Professional program has been established in response to demand from the community. Since the successful launch of the Lean-Kanban University Accredited Kanban Training program in early 2012, many prominent members of the Kanban community have expressed a desire to be recognized with a professional designation for their coaching, consulting, or managerial contributions.  It was felt that Lean-Kanban University should do more than just recognize those offering formal Kanban training.

The KCP program is open to anyone wishing to pursue a career helping organizations improve their culture and processes using the Kanban Method, an evolutionary approach to organizational change that leverages virtual kanban systems and visualization techniques. An advisory board for the program has been established led by David J. Anderson (David J. Anderson and Associates, USA) and including Mike Burrows (Positive Incline, UK), Jeff Anderson (Deloitte LEAN, Canada), Klaus Leopold (LEANability, Austria), Håkan Forss (Avega Group, Sweden), Michael Robillard (McKesson, USA), Laurent Morriseau (Morriseau Consulting, France), Chris Shinkle (SEP, USA), and Stephen Reid (Ultimate Software, USA).

Candidates for the KCP designation must have completed a 3-day Advanced Kanban Masterclass, developed field experience working with Kanban in one or more organizations, and must submit to a peer review process. The advisory board will appoint a review panel to consider each application.

The Kanban Coaching Professional designation indicates that an individual is a member of the Lean-Kanban University Kanban Coaching Professional program.  An annual membership fee will be levied. To maintain their status, KCP’s will be expected to play an active role in the Kanban community.  Specific requirements will be advised via the Advisory Board from time to time.

Lean-Kanban University strongly feels that the announcement of the KCP designation further strengthens the Kanban community and will enable wider adoption and greater success, improving organizations around the world.

About LKU Accredited Kanban Training

The Lean-Kanban University Accredited Kanban Training Program exists to provide confidence to consumers about the quality of the Kanban training that they will receive. The program establishes the quality of Kanban training based on the status of 1) the organization, 2) the individual trainer, and 3) the training curriculum. Member organizations, their trainers and their training curriculums must meet the established criteria in all three areas in order to call their Kanban training “accredited” under the terms of the program.

The Kanban Method pioneered by David. J. Anderson is at the core of the Lean-Kanban University Accredited Kanban Training curriculum. This curriculum lays out basic principles and practices of effective implementation, including limiting the amount of work in progress and visualizing the work.  The Kanban Method takes an organization’s current processes and provides greater visibility into the dynamics of the workflow and state of the work-in-progress. With this new clarity, organizations can start on a path of continual improvement.
